Compassion Corner

"It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously."
--Micah 6:8, The Message

Pray: A post-election prayer

The original, election-day version of this prayer was inspired by Psalms 72 and written by Rev. Gary Cook, former director of church relations at Bread for the World. Post-election modifications by Laura VanDale.

God help us be a people who will seek your justice.

God help us be a people, in whose midst . . .

. . . All people -- of all colors -- will be judged righteously

. . . The poor will be delivered out of poverty

. . . The land will flourish – and flourish sustainably

. . . Peace will break out in our communities and world

. . . Oppression will be put to an end, so that there will be no more refugee families fleeing halfway around the world with their young children

. . . Cities wrecked by abandonment and violence will once again be full of thriving, hopeful life

And in whose midst there will be . . .

. . . a peaceful international order in which our nation is perceived as a blessing to all the nations.

Boycott Wendy's!!
The PC(USA) has endorsed the Wendy’s boycott launched this year by the farmworker-led Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) because of their refusal to join the Fair Food Program. The CIW is asking for our assistance in letting the powers at Wendy's know that we are NOT okay with their bad labor practices.

Choose Fair Trade Chocolate
Americans consume millions of pounds of chocolate per year, but where does it all come from? Forced child labor and child trafficking are a rampant, documented problem in the conventional chocolate industry, but big companies have done little to solve this crisis.
