Mission Partners & Programs for 2009 (Page 1 of 2)

Community Service Alliance: Procop House $3,500
Contact Person: Jeff Nichols, E-mail: jeffsi@en.com

CSA’s Mission Statement: To be a catalyst of targeted training, subsidized low-rent housing, and transitional job opportunities for homeless men so that shelter populations and accompanying public costs are reduced. Our contribution would help subsidize low-cost transitional housing at the ProcopHouse facility on the near Westside.

Continue Life, Inc.: Continue Inn $3,000
Contact Person: Balinda Carvor, (216) 838.1984

“Continue Life is an organization providing a residential shelter for homeless, expectant females 18 years and older and their children.” Continue Inn is the name of their shelter. The funds are to be used to help provide basic needs of the children, maintenance and upkeep of the shelter, transportation assistance to facilitate various appointments in the community, and an exposure trip for the women and their children.

Glenville New Life Community: Youth Program $5,000 and African-American Men Who Excel $2,000
Contact Person: Althea E. Bates, ((216) 451.8540

Glenville New Life Community is a member congregation of the Presbytery of the Western Reserve. We are recommending funding to support their Youth Program as well as their African-American Men Who Excel program. The former offers job training and orientation for youth, plus first work experience for teens. The latter will serve unemployed people who are coming out of prison and trying to reintegrate with society. Funds will be used to provide bus-passes to-and-from work, initial purchase of uniforms, and possible payment of first month’s rent, if needed.

InterAct Cleveland: 2009 Homeless Stand Down $2,500
Contact Person: Sister Donna Wilhelm, (216) 241.0230

Each winter the Homeless Stand Down has performed eminently valuable services for the homeless of Cleveland. Given the current economic climate, the numbers seem likely to increase, creating a more serious problem than ever.

Interfaith Hospitality Network: Homeless Guest Support $4,000
Contact Person: Michael Sering, (216) 566.0047

The mission of the Network is to provide compassionate care to homeless families by engaging the religious and volunteer community of Greater Cleveland. They direct and coordinate the provision of caring, 24-hour hospitality in Family Centers and congregations, including professional and volunteer services, to help families to become self-sufficient. Nearly a dozen PWR member congregations currently participate in this program.

Inward Bound $2,500
Contact Person: Brett Iafigliola, (216) 241.3966

Inward Bound “seeks to provide a hands-on, faith based mission experience in which you and chaperones live in community as they serve the inner city with Cleveland Habitat for Humanity and other community partners – where the participants learn about the communities in which we work, the problems and complexities associated with urban living, and the joy of living simply.”

Inward Bound participants pay a registration fee, but additional fund are needed to cover the costs of overnight facility rental and security, as well as meals.
